1. Commitment to Corrections
Journoist is committed to accuracy, transparency, and accountability. When factual errors occur, we correct them promptly and visibly.
Corrections are not admissions of bad faith; they are a core function of responsible journalism.
2. What Qualifies for a Correction
Journoist issues corrections for:
- Incorrect facts (names, dates, figures, locations)
- Misattributed quotes
- Errors in data interpretation
- Incorrect descriptions of laws, policies, or official actions
Clarifications may be issued when wording is accurate but potentially misleading.
Editorial judgments, analysis, or opinions are not corrected unless they are based on demonstrably false factual premises.
3. How Corrections Are Made
When a correction is required:
- The original article remains published.
- A correction note is added at the bottom of the article.
- The correction clearly states:
- What was incorrect
- What has been corrected
- The date of correction
Journoist does not delete articles solely to conceal errors, except in rare cases involving serious legal or ethical violations.
4. No Silent Edits
Journoist does not silently alter published content in a way that changes meaning or factual substance.
Minor edits that do not affect meaning (grammar, formatting, typographical errors) may be made without a correction note. Any change affecting facts, interpretation, or context is disclosed.
5. Updates vs. Corrections
- Updates add new verified information after publication.
- Corrections fix information that was wrong at the time of publication.
Updates are labeled as such and timestamped.
6. Reader-Initiated Corrections
Readers who identify potential errors may contact Journoist through the designated contact channel.
All credible claims are reviewed by editors. If an error is confirmed, a correction is issued regardless of the source of the notification.
7. Accountability for Contributors
Contributors and editors are expected to cooperate fully in the correction process. Repeated or serious factual errors may result in review of assignments or contributor status.
8. Archival Integrity
Corrected articles remain part of Journoist’s public archive. Historical records are preserved with transparent annotations rather than altered or erased.
9. Legal Requests
Journoist does not remove or alter content solely in response to legal threats. Legitimate legal concerns are evaluated independently and handled in accordance with law and journalistic ethics.
Accuracy is not a posture.
It is a practice.
